Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has decided he will not be returning for a third season as an “American Idol” judge.
FOX released the announcement Thursday, with Tyler’s statement:
After the "American Idol" finalists performed for the last time Tuesday night, "Extra" went backstage to ask America's burning question: "Who is going to be crowned the season 11 champ?"
When judge Steven Tyler was asked his prediction of Georgia boy Phillip Phillips or 16-year-old Jessica Sanchez, he said, "I would say Phillip. Plus, I think that Phillip is going to… he's going to be a big actor too.""Extra's" Renee Bargh was at the "American Idol" Top 13 party, getting reactions from judges Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez.
Lopez was emotional throughout the show, telling Renee, "It's hard, as we were having them sing one by one, I kept looking at the other ones, and I was like, 'God they're so good!'"
The singer also talked about why she teared up recently on an episode of "Q'Viva!" "I had lost my grandmother, my aunt and my uncle all in one year, and so Christmases are kind of funny now. The performer was playing an instrument that was very Puerto Rican, and when he was playing it just reminded me of Christmas and it made me think of family. "
Watch the interviews, including joking with judges Tyler and Jackson and host Ryan Seacrest.
"Extra's" Terri Seymour went backstage at "American Idol," and asked how they felt about "X Factor's" Simon Cowell challenging the winner of the three biggest singing shows -- "X Factor," "American Idol," and "The Voice" -- to have a sing-off. Randy Jackson said, "Who?" followed by Lopez, who asked, "What did he say?"
Randy exclaimed, "We want to have a judge-off! Forget having a sing-off! Let's bring Adam [Levine]... let's get Cee Lo!" Jennifer pointed out, "But they don't judge on that show, right? They mentor?" Seacrest chimed in, "I don't host that show, don't ask."
Tuesday night's live episode of "American Idol" featured Steven Tyler poking fun at Jennifer Lopez for what appeared to be an Oscars wardrobe malfunction on Sunday. Tyler, pulling his shirt open and exposing his chest, asked, "Who am I?"
J.Lo looked surprised and proclaimed, "There was no nipple!"
Most professional artists know the pitfalls, so to speak, of performing on stage, but 16-year-old Symone Black, an "American Idol" Season 11 hopeful, unfortunately had her first taste of public stumbling when she apparently fainted and fell off the stage during the FOX show's Hollywood auditions Wednesday.
The credits rolled as a medic was called for and the rest of the audience looked appropriately stunned. Word has it Black was treated for dehydration and is doing fine, and will continue on the show this week.
