Singer Sinead O'Connor reveals why her 16-day marriage to Barry Herridge didn't last.

"It felt like I was living in a coffin," she told Britain's Sun tabloid. "It was going to be a coffin for both of us, and I saw him crushed. The whole reason I ended it was out of respect and love for the man," adding, "I don't think I will even date anyone."

The "Nothing Compares 2 U" singer, 45, and Herridge, 38, tied the knot in a well-planned December 8 drive-through wedding in Las Vegas.

Now, O'Connor admitted to the Sun that she went on a frantic hunt for pot on their wedding night. "We ended up in a cab in some place that was quite dangerous," O'Connor said. "I wasn't scared - but he's a drugs counselor. What was I thinking?"

She continued, "Then I was handed a load of crack. Barry was very frightened - that kind of messed everything up a bit, really."

O'Connor has struggled with depression and revealed she has bipolar disorder.

Singer Sinead O'Connor announced on her blog Monday that she has separated from her husband Barry Herridge after just 16 days of marriage.

O'Connor wrote the split was due in part to pressures from Herridge's family and friends. "These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about 'Sinead O'Connor' in the media, etc. Entitled as they are to their opinions about me, maybe perhaps well deserved, there was no righteousness on anyone's part to put my husband through what he was put through as a result of his desire to be with me and to marry me and as a result of his actually marrying me."
