Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey was among the recipients at the 33rd Annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington D.C., airing Tuesday on CBS at 9:00 PM EST, and she chatted with "Extra's" AJ Calloway about what the night meant to her.
Dazzling in a Carolina Herrera gown, and lauded by President Obama for helping define American culture through the arts, Oprah sat hand-in-hand with fellow honoree Sir Paul McCartney -- telling AJ before the event, "This is the wedding I never had, because I always thought I was going to marry Paul McCartney."
Oprah Winfrey, singer/songwriter Paul McCartney, country legend Merle Haggard, composer and lyricist Jerry Herman, and director and choreographer Bill T. Jones will be this year's recipients of the Kennedy Center Honors, presented to performing artists for their lifetime contributions to American culture.
Winfrey is being honored for her decades in entertainment as an influential actress, talk show host and media mogul, while McCartney is being recognized for his tremendous contribution to the music industry. The ex-Beatle was to receive the honor in 2002 but had to postpone due to scheduling conflicts.
