Superstar songstress Mary J. Blige was the guest of honor at Essence's Black Women in Music event in West Hollywood Wednesday night.
Music mogul L.A. Reid presented Blige with a statue while stars including Taraji P. Henson, Ludacris, Joy Bryant and Gabrielle Union applauded from the audience.
"Thank you so much for supporting me from the day I stepped foot into the music industry," Blige told the crowd.
"It really means something to me to have Maya Angelou speak on my behalf," she said after viewing Angelou's video segment. "It also means a lot to have Oprah on my speed dial!"
Essence selected Blige for her accomplishments as a singer, songwriter and actress. She is also the co-founder of the non-profit organization Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now.

The new judge's seat on "American Idol" has turned into a game of musical chairs! It is confirmed that country star Shania Twain will be a guest judge at upcoming "Idol" auditions.
Twain will sit on the panel with Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi in Chicago on Aug. 30 and 31.
Victoria Beckham joined the crew in Boston earlier this month. Mary J. Blige assisted with her expertise in Atlanta this week.

Get ready for "No More Drama" on "American Idol" -- singer Mary J. Blige has been tapped to be a guest judge for the show!
According to People magazine, Blige will join Simon Cowell, Kara DioGuardi and Randy Jackson at the judging table during the Atlanta auditions.
On Friday, judges wrapped up filming in Boston with former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham. Despite rumors, Posh's rep recently told "Extra" that there have been no plans to make Victoria a permanent judge on the show.
