Rapper/actor LL Cool J joined “Extra’s” Maria Menounos at The Grove on Thursday, where the “NCIS: Los Angeles” star opened up about the controversy surrounding his "Accidental Racist" duet with country singer Brad Paisley.

The song, which caused a social media uproar when it was released on Tuesday, is styled as a conversation between a white Southerner and a black New Yorker.

LL explained, “The fact that there is so much controversy is proof that the conversation needed to be had. In clarifying, my intent is in no way saying that slavery is okay, that would be heartless.”

Country music star Brad Paisley is taking heat for the controversial song "Accidental Racist," a duet Paisley did with LL Cool J for Paisley’s new album, “Wheelhouse.”

The song, which caused a social media uproar when it was released on Tuesday, is styled as a conversation between a white Southerner and a black New Yorker. Paisley sings, "[I'm] just a proud rebel son with an ol' can of worms/Lookin' like I got a lot to learn." LL Cool J, replies. "If you don't judge my do-rag … I won't judge your red flag/If you don't judge my gold chains … I'll forget the iron chains."

Last year, Adele was unbeatable at the Grammys, leading the nominations and going six for six on awards night. With the "Rolling in the Deep" songstress mostly out of the picture this year (she did receive a performance nod), six acts are now vying for the top spot. Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Dan Auerbach, Frank Ocean, Kanye West and Fun. all scored six nominations a piece.

The happy news was delivered via a star-studded show in Nashville this year, dubbed “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!” Taylor Swift and LL Cool J hosted the party, which included performances by Adam Levine, Ne-Yo and Hunter Hayes.
