In the second part of his dramatic TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lance Armstrong shed a few tears but said he believed he deserved a second chance.
Asked if he thought he should be allowed to compete again now that he has admitted to years of doping, Armstrong said, “This may not be the most popular answer, but I think I deserve it.”
Lance Armstrong might be regretting that interview with Oprah right about now. Sitting down with the expert interviewer to reveal his doping and cheating appears to be backfiring, at least from a PR standpoint.
In the wake of the special, Armstrong is being called a “sociopath” by the Baltimore Sun, a “sniveling, lying, cheating little wretch” by CNN’s Piers Morgan and his “performance was found lacking” by the Los Angeles Times.
Disgraced former cycling champ Lance Armstrong admitted to what many have been alleging for years.
In the much-publicized, two-part interview with Oprah Winfrey which began airing Thursday, the veteran TV host asked right at the start if he took performance-enhancing drugs, to which Armstrong definitively answered yes.
Arnold Schwarzenegger, who weathered his own scandal, has some advice for disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong. The actor told “Extra’s” Mario Lopez, “I think the most important thing is to just say it the way it is.”
He added, “I think that people are forgiving with mistakes, but they aren’t forgiving when you start beating around the bush or try to hide or try to lie. So it’s always the cover-up that gets you into more trouble than the actual mistake.”
The former assistant to Lance Armstrong has come forward to say the disgraced cyclist was “calculating” and that he should be facing a judge, not being interviewed by Oprah Winfrey.
Mike Anderson, who was very close to his boss for many years until he claims he found evidence Lance was taking performance-enhancing drugs, told the Daily Mail, “I have a pretty solid understanding of who Lance Armstrong is. He is a very calculating individual. Everything that he does is with forethought and for his own benefit. Frankly, I hope he goes to jail. He introduced a sort of corruption to cycling’s governing body that is very American: loads of money and PR.”Fans that once supported Lance Armstrong and his Livestrong foundation have taken to Instagram to deface their yellow bracelets, shoes and other gear.
Cutting the bracelets in half, modifying the text to read “Liestrong” and scribbling out the logo altogether are among the methods people are using to show their disappointment.
