“American Idol” winner Kris Allen had a rough start to 2013, but has a lot to look forward to as a new dad.
The singer was involved in a head-on collision Tuesday evening, resulting in a broken wrist. He tweeted, “Thank you Ford for equipping me with a car that kept my whole family [wife Katy and French bulldog Zorro] and the little one we have on the way safe.”
"American Idol" winner Kris Allen recently went to Haiti to lend a hand in the earthquake relief effort with the United Nations Foundation.
On Thursday's "Idol," Kris sang The Beatles' Let It Be and played guitar while a pianist accompanied him. The star's performance will be available on iTunes and 100% of the proceeds will go to Haiti relief.

The NBA is teaming up with "American Idol" this weekend. Season 8 champ Kris Allen is scheduled to sing the national anthem at the second game of the NBA finals on Sunday.
The 23-year-old will serenade basketball fans at the Staples Center when the Los Angeles Lakers play the Orlando Magic. The Lakers won the first game Thursday night. The final score was 100-75.
In July, Allen and the top 10 "Idol" finalists will return to the Staples Center with the "American Idol" 2009 summer tour.
Kris' version of the anthem will air live this Sunday on ABC.

West sent Allen a message via "Extra" saying, "Congratulations. Get ready for the big leagues."
The overnight heartthrob responded, "Thank you for writing the song. The whole CD is amazing. Hopefully, we can work together. That'd be great."
"Extra" caught up with Allen after his appearance on "Live with Regis and Kelly" and he admits he's still getting used to his newfound fame. Kris says, "A lot of friends and family I don't even know are calling... a lot of people coming out of the woodwork."
Kris tells "Extra" he's getting ready to begin writing songs and figuring out what will be on his debut album. The 23-year-old is also rehearsing for the "American Idol" tour.
