Jessica Simpson tried to be good friend when she visited the L.A. County Sheriff's Department in West Hollywood early Friday morning to try to bail out a pal. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old singer was turned away.
Simpson's makeup artist, Mary Phillips, was arrested at 1:30 AM for being drunk in public.
The Sheriff Department tells "Extra" Phillips could not be bailed out because detainees cannot be released until they are sober.
Earlier in the night, Simpson posted a sexy, candid photo of herself on Twitter with hairstylist Ken Paves and Phillips. Simpson wrote, "Sizzlin' w my peeps, pretty boy KP, lil' cholita (Mary Phillips)...look out Yo!!"
Jessica Simpson showed off a new look in India earlier this week.
The singer, 29, had an intricate henna tattoo in Mumbai Monday while filming her VH1 reality show, "The Price of Beauty."
"The intricate Mehndi designs are typically Indian, and made with a turmeric paste," her rep told London's Daily Mail. "They're worn at wedding ceremonies and are supposed to bring good luck to eligible single women in India. It's a big style statement too. The really intricate designs take hours to apply by hand using just a brush. The artists are very skilled."
She traveled overseas with her hairstylist pal Ken Paves, and returned to Los Angeles late Tuesday night.
Reality TV sexpot Kim Kardashian got a little help from famed hair stylist Ken Paves for an O Magazine photo shoot. Kim posted pics on her blog saying Paves "completely transformed" her hair -- with a wig! The 28-year-old kinda resembles mom Kris Jenner with the short bob!

Jessica Simpson's Saturday night out on the town with hairstylist BFF Ken Paves became a hair-raising evening when Ken got between the singer and a photog -- and was smacked!
The country crooner and Paves were exiting Los Angeles restaurant Madeo when they were swarmed by shutterbugs trying to snap pictures of Simpson. Paves reportedly stepped toward Jessica to protect her, and was clipped on the bridge of his nose by a paparazzo's camera. Simpson and Paves then hopped in their car and took Ken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was treated. No police charges have been filed against the shutterbugs.
Today, Paves released a statement to "Extra" saying:
"I appreciate everyone who has expressed concern after the incident which occurred outside of Madeo restaurant Saturday evening. While I did not expect a dinner out with friends would end up with me in the emergency room and nine stitches in my head, I am fine.
My only real concern on Saturday night, and it remains so in retrospect, was for the safety of my friend and all concerned. I understand everyone has a job to do, including paparazzi. If I were to say anything about Saturday night, it is only to encourage that everyone would respect and care for the safety of others above all else."
