The Zurich Film Festival, taking place September 20th – 30, announced that veteran producer Jerry Weintraub will be the recipient of their coveted “Golden Eye” Career Achievement Award for 2012.
Jerry Weintraub's biopic, "His Way," documents Weintraub's five decades in show business, and includes interviews with George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Bruce Willis, James Caan, among others.
Weintraub, who has been called one of Hollywood's most prolific producers and most powerful talent managers, says the title simply means, "To keep going... to enjoy life."
Producer Jerry Weintraub and director Steven Soderbergh will bring the Liberace biopic "Behind the Candelabra" to HBO Films, starring Michael Douglas as the famous entertainer.
The film examines the tempestuous affair between Liberace and his younger, live-in lover, Scott Thorson, to be played by Matt Damon.
Weintraub said in a statement, "I've wanted to make a film about Liberace for a very long time, and after the amazing experience I had with HBO on 'His Way,' I knew that they were absolutely the right place for this movie. I am thrilled that we have the incomparable Michael Douglas to inhabit the role of Liberace, as well as the exceptional Matt Damon to play the pivotal part of Scott Thorson. Putting these two fine actors in the creative hands of Steven Soderbergh -- it doesn't get better than that!"
The stars came out to celebrate uber-producer Jerry Weintraub at the premiere of his HBO documentary, "His Way," based on his autobiography "When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead."
"Extra" spoke with some of the celebrities in attendance, including Sharon Stone, who said, "He's the guy that is the first person to call you when you're going through anything in your life and he's always there and always present and he really means it."
Matt Damon added, "There's something he does when he meets you he kind of takes the measure of you very quickly. For instance, when he met my wife before we were married, he looked at me and he goes, 'You're gonna marry that girl!'"
