"American Idol's" Ryan Seacrest is looking forward to this season's competition, premiering Jan. 19 on FOX.

"I figured we'd find some good kids when we left for the auditions but these kids exceeded our expectations," Seacrest told "Extra" at the Television Critics Association party for E! Entertainment. "We found some excellent contestants!"

Seacrest also said "Idol" judge Jennifer Lopez may end up being the tough one. "Jennifer is tough. She gives tough love, and she expects a lot from them, which is good."

Other E! stars were on hand at the party, including "Chelsea Lately's "acerbic host and comedian Chelsea Handler. "I have opinions... and people need to deal with it," Handler quipped.

David Salmoni is used to taming wild animals on his Animal Planet show, "Fatal Attractions," but trying to tame ex-girlfriend Chelsea Handler was not so easy.

The two had a brief romance over the summer, and Salmoni told "Extra's" Mario Lopez he's "definitely back on the market." He added, "We did fine... She and I were good friends for a short period of time."
