The film, based on the Broadway musical, is set in 1987 Los Angeles, where two young people (Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta), are chasing their dreams in the big city, where they meet and fall in love. Their romance faces a series of challenges.

Zeta-Jones, who stars as a conservative, Michelle Bachmann-type villain in the film, gushed in her praise of co-star Tom Cruise. "You have no idea how good he is going to be in this movie!"
After facing a tough year dealing with his wife's bipolar disorder and his own battle with cancer, an upbeat Michael Douglas told "Extra's" Jerry Penacoli, "I feel good! I've got a clean bill of health."

Michael, who still looks slimmer than before, said, "I'm putting it on slowly, gettin' back... still a few pounds light," and added, "Lean is good... lean photographs better."
