Pitt told the mag, “I’d get so far and then want to do something else… for a long time I thought I did too much damage -- drug damage. I was a bit of a drifter. A guy who felt he grew up in something of a vacuum and wanted to see things, wanted to be inspired. I followed that other thing. I spent years f**king off. But then I got burnt out and felt that I was wasting my opportunity. It was a conscious change. This was about a decade ago. It was an epiphany -- a decision not to squander my opportunities. It was a feeling of get up. Because otherwise, what’s the point?”

The paper reports that Jolie used “extensive and elaborate” disguises and wigs throughout her three surgeries at the Pink Lotus Center in Beverly Hills. Not surprisingly, she also used a different name on all documents.

In this week’s People cover story, the magazine looks at Jolie’s extreme health decision and reveals that because she carries the "faulty" BRCA1 gene, Jolie is still at risk of developing ovarian cancer, the same disease that claimed the life of her mother, Marchline Bertrand, in 2007.

Actor Brad Pitt praised fiancée Angelina Jolie for her decision to undergo a double mastectomy to prevent cancer.

Pitt told the Standard, “Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic. I thank our medical team for their care and focus. All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”

Titled "My Medical Choice," Jolie opened her piece by writing how her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian cancer at the age of 56 (in 2007) and how it has been hard talking to her children about it. Jolie writes, “I find myself trying to explain the illness that took her away from us. They have asked if the same could happen to me. I have always told them not to worry, but the truth is I carry a ‘faulty’ gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.”
