As the Northeast braces for another whopper snowstorm, travel expert Peter Greenberg gave “Extra” some insider info on why flights are cancelled.
“For every 12 hours that you're down it takes 36 hours to get back. The reason for that, from an operational point of view, is that the airplanes are out of sequence. The flight crews are out of schedule. They’ve got to be matched up again. That’s why the airlines try to do so many preemptive cancellations. Cancel everything before it happens so nothing is out of sequence.”
