“For every 12 hours that you're down it takes 36 hours to get back. The reason for that, from an operational point of view, is that the airplanes are out of sequence. The flight crews are out of schedule. They’ve got to be matched up again. That’s why the airlines try to do so many preemptive cancellations. Cancel everything before it happens so nothing is out of sequence.”

Travel expert Peter Greenburg talked with “Extra’s” Mario Lopez about some smart tips in traveling this Christmas and New Year’s.
Greenberg says don’t stress if you still want to fly at Christmas. “For procrastinators, you want to fly on Christmas morning… it’ll be empty and you come back on New Year’s morning when everybody else is recovering from New Year’s Eve.”
“What a lot of people are going to do is head to the airport bar. Wrong idea,” explained Greenberg. “You don't ever want to get on the plane intoxicated. The bottom line here is to get some food while you can, hydrate yourself, get a good book.”
