"Grey's Anatomy" fans were thrilled when it was revealed Katherine Heigl's character Izzie Stevens would return for season six of the hit series, but now Heigl and co-star Ellen Pompeo are scheduled to temporarily check-out of Seattle Grace.
Heigl will take a leave of absence to film the romantic comedy "Life as We Know It." An ABC rep tells People magazine, "Katherine is taking time off to film a movie. The producers at 'Grey's' have accommodated things like that before. It's a cast of 13 and it is a true ensemble so the show is mindful [of other commitments]."
Heigl's hiatus begins this month and extends to November. Castmate Ellen Pompeo is expected to give birth to her first child this October and will be on maternity leave.
The show's producers have announced three new characters will join the cast in recurring roles to be played by Nora Zehetner, Robert Baker and Jesse Williams.
The Los Angeles Police Department has released a statement about the investigation of a sex video involving "Grey's Anatomy" stud Eric Dane, his actress wife Rebecca Gayheart and former Miss Teen USA Kari Ann Peniche. The LAPD obtained the DVD and has launched an investigation for "criminal activity."

"On July 30, 2009, an unnamed source provided the LAPD's Detective Support and Vice Division with a copy of a DVD. According to the source, the DVD contained images that could link celebrities engaging in illegal activity," the statement said.
"The LAPD was in the process of reviewing the voluminous files contained on the DVD when the story was leaked to the media. No determination has been made as to whether or not the DVD contained any information that could be used for a criminal investigation. Some of the information contained on the DVD included archived articles and photographs of porn stars and formally convicted madams, which could readily be found over the Internet.
The LAPD will continue to review the DVD for potential evidence. Therefore, additional information about the contents of the DVD will be treated as confidential."
On Wednesday, Dane returned to the set of "Grey's" while rumors swirl about Peniche.
The 25-year-old is no stranger to scandal. Peniche was stripped of her Miss Teen USA title after posing for Playboy in 2004.
