When “American Idol” returns in January 2013, Mariah Carey, Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Keith Urban will be sitting at the judges’ table.
Contestants will perform for the new panel starting Sunday at auditions in New York followed by tryouts in Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, San Antonio, Baton Rouge and Oklahoma City.

Hip-hop artist Nicki Minaj is reportedly joining Mariah Carey as a judge on “American Idol.”
A source told Us Weekly, "I'm not sure the deal is completely done yet, but yes, she is definitely doing it. A few more slight things to sign off on but it is happening."

Season 1 “American Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson talked with “Extra’s” Terri Seymour about boyfriend Brandon Blackstock and why she loves Mariah Carey as a new “Idol” judge, but could never do it herself.
“I'm kind of super-proud that I'm from the show and Mariah Carey's going to be on it,” gushed Kelly. “Just because I'm a huge fan of hers.”“Extra’s” Terri Seymour spoke with “American Idol” Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe at the FOX Television Critics Association press tour, commenting on Mariah Carey’s $18-million deal to join “Idol.”
FOX announced Monday superstar Mariah Carey has inked a deal to become a judge on “American Idol” when it returns in January 2013.
“As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with ‘American Idol,’” said Carey. “I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”
