“Extra” caught up with Nigel Lythgoe at Purity Vodka’s 3rd Annual Broadcast Critics' Choice Awards, where he talked about being fired as executive producer of “American Idol.”
Lythgoe explained, “I'd read for a week that we were going to be fired in different papers and magazines, so it didn't come as too much of a surprise when I got a telephone call on Friday. I was grateful to get the call.”Lopez smiled, “I don’t know, we’ll see. I’m always open to all the infinite possibilities that the universe has to offer, so you never know.”

The big shakeup at “American Idol” continued when longtime show producer Nigel Lythgoe confirmed the rumors that he, too, is leaving the singing competition show.

Three judges down… one to go? With yesterday’s announcements that Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj are officially not returning to “American Idol” next season, and Randy Jackson’s previously announced exodus, where does that leave remaining judge Keith Urban?
The country superstar appears to be hanging tight to see what happens. Urban recently told AP, "I have no official information of anything. I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don't know anything more about what's happening next season."After weeks of speculation, it looks like singing superstar Mariah Carey will not be returning to “American Idol” next season.
Her PR firm tweeted on Thursday, “W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol http://mariahcarey.com”“American Idol” judge Keith Urban claims he’s in the dark about the future of the show, just like the rest of us.
"I have no official information of anything," the country singer told Associated Press. "I'm pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don't know anything more about what's happening next season."“American Idol” chose Candice Glover as its Season 12 champ on Thursday, but the real story is which of the ‘Idol’ judges are returning next season?
Longtime panelist Randy Jackson recently announced he was leaving the show after nine years, with reports saying Nicki Minaj will also exit to focus on her career.
