Essence Honors Oprah Winfrey with Power Award

February 22, 2013 The A List

“Extra’s” Renee Bargh caught up with Oprah Winfrey at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon on Thursday, where the television host and network owner was honored with the Power Award.

Winfrey revealed that she has been reading the magazine since she was a child and that it was the “first national magazine to launch my face.” She even got a surprise in 1986 when the publication revealed how much money she would make that year.

Oprah explained, “I read in Essence magazine that I was going to be making $11 million that year and I went ‘What???’”
