Beyoncé Backlash: Stars React to Lipsynch Stink

January 23, 2013 Politix

Did Beyoncé lipsynch the National Anthem at President Obama’s Inauguration ceremony on Monday? The backlash is hitting a fever pitch, one day after the Marine Corps Band claimed Bey sang along with a prerecorded track.

The band is even backtracking, releasing a statement to the Washington Post, saying, “No one in the Marine Band is in a position to assess whether it was live or pre-recorded.”

Lipsynch Stink: Beyoncé Saving Voice for Super Bowl Halftime Show?

So far, the “Single Ladies” singer isn’t responding to the brouhaha, and Hollywood is already over the whole thing.

Katy Perry told reporters, “She didn’t lipsynch,” while Piers Morgan tweeted, “Half the world’s starving folks, get over it.”

Anderson Cooper reacted with a “big star-spangled so what???”

Jennifer Lopez reminded Jon Stewart that this isn’t the first time the “Star Spangled Banner” has supposedly been lipsynched, pointing out that Whitney Houston’s famous Super Bowl rendition was pre-recorded in 1991 (Houston’s former music director Ricky Minor confirmed the rumor to ABC News after her death).

While much of the focus is on Beyoncé’s performance, Lady Gaga has also been in the spotlight. The “Born this Way” singer invaded D.C. Tuesday night with Tony Bennett for the President’s inaugural staff ball.

Michelle Obama wowed the crowd once again with her First Lady fashion, this time dazzling in a retro sequined tunic.

One person absent from the Inaugural celebrations… Oprah. Best friend Gayle King, however, says rumors of a rift between President Obama and Oprah are “not true.”

Anderson Cooper ( who has a theme for his show---- "keeping them honest") has no problem with this con. What does this say about Mr. Cooper?

There must have been an enormous amount of stress on the performers to do well at the presidential inauguration. That said, I believe Beyonce should not have sang along with a pre-recorded track (if she did). Yes, it must have been freezing outside and that can have an ill effect on the quality of their singing (Kelly Clarkson said it was so hard). But if Kelly sang live as did James Taylor, Beyonce should not have been afforded any special favors...that's my opinion for what it's worth.

Well there's a difference between entertainers and singers.Kelly can sing. Beyonce is an entertainer. If she couldn't sing live like everyone else for approx. a minute and 30 seconds, go figure. She's NOT a singer and never will be.It doesn't mean she's a bad person. She just may struggle singing live because she can't really sing. I could see if it were Mariah Carey or Christina but Beyonce?C'mon...give it a rest.Hopefully she will deliver great entertainment at the Superbowl!!!

I agree with Pierce...and besides I loss interest in she and Jay Z when they supported in the more recent past the Republican party...that is what they wanted you to move on and get over..and I can't forget her comments about animals and her furs....so I am over it and her....these people love money and don't care about any body else. No doubt she can sing, but I think if she could speak in interviews like she sings we would all be better off.

It's her voice, either way, so what's the big deal. It sounded beautiful.

Why shouldn't she? We have a president who can't speak 3 coherent sentences without a teleprompter. Why would it surprise us that the artist who performs at his inaugural is faking it, too?

It's not world shaking, and I don't mean to imply that it is, even if she did. But no one like to feel duped, and as we all listen and anticipate listening, and then we are so swept away by something that we think is happening right before our eyes and ears. So it's just a form of cheating that results in that universal thrill being tarnished and ending in a, "Well, what do you know!" Sometimes even the little things seem big.

If Beyonce was slightly ill and wanted her song to be flawless as a professional SHE DID THE RIGHT THING. As long as it was HER VOICE and she didn't take another person's credits. SHE MADE THE RIGHT BUSINESS DECISION. What is wrong with you people? Forget the fact that you don't like her, forget the fact that you are jealous, forget the fact that it was not really song just for YOU. Just use your business a***en. And allow entertainers to have aches and pains, just like humans, what is wrong with this world Beyonce, the First Lady, President Obama, Oprah, Jessie Jr. Janet Jackson, J-Z, it is always something to critize...damn go look in the mirror.

First of all, to those who type with caps lock on it is bad manners becase to the reader it is as if You are screaming.
Secondly, This article is about whether it was live or pre-recorded
only those present can answer that.
And finally, Why mention any other performer when the article is about whether she sang it live or pre-recorded it.

I find it disturbing that with so much strife in the world the only thing blazing in the headlines is a bunch of rubbish about the First Lady's dress and now Beyonce so called lip sync. If she did lip sync it is not a crime some peole are acting like she killed someone or put someone out of their home or job. Some of you play this whole patriotic thing like you really care so much how the anthem is sang. Are you Kidding!!! Stop hating and trash talking about a woman you dont know. Get your jealousy under control it is not that serious!! I love Beyonce and the Michelle Obama no matter what you haters say or think...

Don't get me wrong. I HATE lip synching and all the other digitized fake nonsense that seems to qualify as "music" today. HOWEVER, she didn't do anything that just about every other "talent" does today. People like Lady Goo Goo, Taylor Swift, Madonna and just about all of the disney dweebs all do that. And unlike many of them Beyonce actually does have talent. For all the teapublicans who just have to find some reason to discredit anything that has anything to do with the President I say stop making fools out of yourself. It just isn't that big of a deal..

If all these people that is so concern about Beyonce singing or lip sync would be more concern about thier own business lying or truth, cheating or not, breaking the law or not, simply taking care of there business they would be better off. Lady Beyonce I think u 'rock'!!!

you would think at such an important event that genuine elements would play a greater part but just like most if not every soul train show it looks like another fake lip "sink" . Aretha franklin, patti labell, lena horn and other great black women didn't need to drag their ass all over the stage to make money ,they walked with more
r-e-s-p-e-c-t! for their fans and their own selves and that's the way they will be remembered! ...not some whiney that shakes her hiney to make money for a dummey. women ,yes you out there think about this and remember ..you can do better as a person to inspire, and if people can't see your light hang in there, you will shine in some honorable way.
