On Friday, Hostess announced plans to shut down operations in the wake of a bankruptcy filing and nationwide union strike.

Fans of the company’s popular treats, like Twinkies, Ho Hos and Ding Dongs, were in mourning on Friday, but it might not be the end of the road for the snack cakes. Another company will likely buy up the mega-brand.

Hostess Twinkies did this once before several years ago and people went crazy trying to make their own version of the Twinkie, and their were several versions of the "Twinkie" people could make. If Hostess is in trouble it's because they're not paying attention to the buying public "we want healthier versions of things", we now know how bad sugar is for us and with diabetes hitting 1 in about 3 people, we want to eat delicious, but healthy foods. That's one of the main reasons I absolutely love our First Lady Michele Obama, we want to eat healthy, even Pillsbury has come out with a line of "sugar free cake mix", it's delicious, it's a lot less calories and sugar free. The buying public is paying attention to "service size", we've become label savvy and reading those labels carefully. Hostess needs to pay attention to what the buying public wants verses profit margin which is probably why (like McDonalds) they're having financial problems.
