Visitors checking-in to England’s Damson Dene Hotel won’t find Bibles in their nightstands… but they will find a copy of E.L. James’ bestselling novel, “Fifty Shades of Grey”!

Hotel Drops Bible for ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’

Hotel owner Jonathan Denby wrote on his Slow Life blog, “Tonight millions of women will be curling up in bed with a good book and you can bet your life it won’t be the Bible. More likely than not it will be ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’”

Denby continues, “This made me wonder about the sense of providing a book, the Gideon Bible, which no-one reads, and many dislike, in the bedside cabinet of our hotel bedrooms, instead of a book which everyone wants to read, such as ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’

Some in England aren’t happy with the news, with one local newspaper calling Denby’s actions a “gimmick.”

Denby says he will not banish the Bible altogether. Hotel guests can still request a copy from the front desk.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” has become a worldwide publishing sensation, with over 31 million copies sold.

The Bible is the bestselling book of all time, having sold more than 6 billion copies.
