Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano Talk Love in 'Ruby Sparks'

What happens when your imaginary dream woman comes to life?

The new dramedy “Ruby Sparks” tackles that question, a thought-provoking twist on the Pygmalion theme. It centers on successful author Calvin (Paul Dano from “There Will Be Blood’s” Paul Dano) who is struggling with writer’s block but when he creates his perfect woman, Ruby (“It’s Complicated” actress Zoe Kazan) on the page, he falls in love – and then sees her manifested in real life. Soon Ruby begins to have her own thoughts and feelings, which aren’t always in line with what Calvin wants. But just by typing out a few words, he can control Ruby.

Kazan (who also wrote the screenplay) and Dano sat down with “Extra” to discuss the meaning of love in “Ruby” – and how it affected their real-life relationship.

The film also stars Annette Bening, Antonio Banderas and Chris Messina, directed by “Little Miss Sunshine” duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. It's opened in theaters now.
