John Mayer 'Humiliated' by Taylor Swift's 'Dear John'

June 06, 2012 Couples News

Singer John Mayer said he had his feelings hurt when Taylor Swift released her telling tribute song “Dear John.” The artist confessed to Rolling Stone that he was “really humiliated.”

"It made me feel terrible," Mayer told the magazine, on newsstands Friday. "Because I didn't deserve it. I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do."

He also admitted he was blindsided by the lyrics. "I never got an e-mail. I never got a phone call," he said. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"

When it comes to the line, "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?" -- Mayer isn’t talking. "I don't want to go into that."

John, who released his new album “Born and Raised” on May 22, called Swift’s song “cheap songwriting.”

"I know she's the biggest thing in the world, and I'm not trying to sink anybody's ship, but I think it's abusing your talent to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait ‘til he gets a load of this!' That's bullshit."

John, 34, and Taylor, 22, dated in 2010.

Wow John Mayer is a winning baby. Taylor Swift can do better than this jerk. He has a bad reputation around women, he has a big mouth. Makes me sick to even see a picture of John Mayer & Taylor Swift together. He's a looser.

He is such a loser, I can only dream of being with someone as beautiful as Taylor Swift and if I was, I wouldn't care about a song she wrote about me.................wouldn't have to, because I wouldn't have given her a reason to write a bad song about me! John, you suck and don't deserve to ever be with another woman of the same caliber as you have been in the past. Please become a hermit so we don't have to hear you whine like a baby, you hypocrite!

Of course Taylor has a lot of growing up to do-obviously! She's a young girl writing about her feelings and where her head is at right now. She will mature and evolve over time, but it's John who should really know better. He's the dirtbag who hurt her and countless others, so let the dust settle where it will John-you should know better and you brought it on yourself-no sympathy here. See previous comment!

John Mayer has a point about Taylor Swift, the miss goodie two shoes should stick to dating guys her own age.She wants to be america's sweetheart and get the vote for all tweenager's parents to allow their kids to listen to her music but, writing songs that include lyrics with low blows to each ex isn't classy or at all grown up which it seems Ms. Swift has a lot of that to do.

I was all set to comment "Ya, Karma's a bitch" John, and then I look and it's the first comment I see, so I guess I'm not alone here. He has trashed so many women saying nasty, disparaging things. Now we're supposed to feel bad for poor little arrogant obnoxious John? If you're trying to improve yourself as you say, then great, but in the meantime you'll have to suffer the consequences of having behaved like a pig!

What a baby!!!! He can dish it out, but when he is called out on it he can't take it. Maybe his new album isnt selling well (especially as well as hers) so he thinks if he can get some sympathy people will buy his album. He shouldnt treat women like dirt. What comes around goes around. Now he can go away.

Karma is a B considering the sick and horrific comment he made about why he won't be with a black woman. He likes to put his feet in his mouth and as a celebrity, he thinks he can say anything he wants. He dates celebrity woman then talks bad about them and he is acting hurt by someone doing exactly what he has been doing. Grow up John Mayer! I have always loved his music and I once supported him as an artist by paying for his concerts, but never again. He lost me as a fan and he lost many African American women like me by disrespecting us with his lack of tact. Bottom line is he can't handle all the woman he has done wrong, or a African American woman, let alone Taylor Swift. Humiliation over a song should be the least of his worries. Looks like he has to go soul searching again.........

Apparently John has never heard the song "Dear John" by Jessie James. It is also written about him, but just a tad bit more ridiculous. The man makes amazing music, but I cannot deal with his ego.

John Meyer needs to get a life. Taylor is too young for him.. He doesn't like her songs then don't buy them.. He is an infant,, I had to chuckle reading this..

Poor John Mayer maybe this will make him think twice before he writes his next song or does his next interview. He acts like no other songwriter has ever written about what has happened to them. I'm one of those that believes "Whats good for the goose is good for the gander". Hats off to you Taylor for telling it like it was!! Grow up John and act like a man instead of a wimpy little boy who can't take what you dish out!!

I usually don't comment here, but this is important: this guy is racist and misogynist it seems to me. He will continue to feel himself above any improvement or criticism while he does as he pleases with the various partners who will have him and speaks his mind to Rolling Stone mag, only to say later he was striving to be hip. When is abusive behavior and contemptuous talk hip? Like his voice and some of his songs but will never buy a Mayer cd again.

Last I knew that's what songwriters do. They write songs about their life. Look at Adele's 21. The whole album is pretty much about how much her ex hurt her. People don't seem to have a problem with that. John, himself has written songs about people in his life. At least that's better then standing on a street corner talking to TMZ about Jennifer Aniston. Or how about, sexual napalm Jessica Simpson with Playboy. Now he's talking about Taylor with RS. I would feel more humiliated to be John Mayer if I were him. Pot here's the kettle.

Oh poor baby, he didn't have any problem blabbing about Jessica, but he can't take Taylor's showing him up. Frankly I can't stand either one of them, they both need to gow up.
