Sean Penn Spent Every Penny to Save Haiti
"Extra's" Jerry Penacoli caught up with actor Sean Penn at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival to talk about his new indie drama, "This Must Be the Place" - and about how he spent most of his money helping Haiti to recover from the devastating 2010 earthquake.
"I got to Haiti and found myself having spent all my money," Penn explained. "I had spent out, among other things, and I had to go back to work. The [J/P Haitian Relief] organization was up and running. We had a reasonable leadership in place that could take over for me while I was away."
Some of that work included starring in "This Must Be the Place," playing a retired androgynous rock star who decides to find his father's executioner, an ex-Nazi war criminal who is a refugee in the U.S.

Penacoli marveled at how the actor is able to stay balanced and humble. The Oscar winner replied, "Well, you know anybody who has kids has a method by which they can be humbled, so I'm conscious of that all the time and God knows, I'm not strictly humble."
