Video! Paris Jackson Talks to Ellen: Wearing a Mask Was 'Stupid'

December 14, 2011 Candid Confessions

After Lindsay Lohan bailed on her appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," Michael Jackson's daughter Paris was quickly booked.

In her first solo interview, Paris talked about her pop star dad, and even opened up about what it felt like to wear masks in public. She recalled, "I'm like, 'This is stupid, why am I wearing a mask?' But, I, kind of realized the older I got, like, he only tried to protect us and he'd explain that to us, too."

Thanks to the disguise, Jackson said her childhood felt normal because her classmates didn't recognize her.

"THANK YOU JAY LEONE" I am so greatful that people like you exist on this earth; You are a wonderful human being.....GBU for taking the time to recognize a true "humanitarian" like Michael - he has done such much for soooo many people on this earth in life and he continues to do a lot for others event though he is not here. His musical accomplishments are well deserved and should never be forgotten. He has broken down so many doors for other African American artists (since day 1) and he continues to pave the way for us even in death. As an artist, I will always treasure his support and committment to the arts!!! He is a true Life and Musical Inspiration for me.

For some reason certain media outlets feel it is necessary to continue to send a "negative" connotation when they use his name. Can someone please explain this to me? I don't get it.....He deserves better than this, and anyone who feels the same should say so, so that's why I'm writing this message. If you agree, let the world know. Peace!!

It is interesting to note how you chose to title this article. It is just another way to denigrate Michael Jackson because of the choice he made to assure his children's safety by hiding their identity. You at least had the decency to include the crux of Paris' statement- that her father had explained why he had them wear masks, and that she now understood he was only trying to protect them from kidnappers and the paparazzi. Mr.Jackson had been stalked by them his entire life and he wanted his children to be able to have a more free and normal life when they were out in public than he was able to have.

He was a magnificent father according to those who knew him and observed his parenting skills. He treasured his children, and they him. The children are well-behaved, intelligent, thoughtful and socially aware. As Paris stated in this interview, she and her brothers want to continue their father's legacy of helping the less fortunate and working to bring an awareness of the need to make the changes necessary to save our environment.

It is time for the media to speak to all the good things that Michael Jackson did in his short time on the planet. He was one of the greatest entertainers of all time. He donated millions to charity. He raised three wonderful children. He made the biggest selling album of all time. He broke records over and over. He broke down barriers for African-Americans. The list goes on and on.

It is time to celebrate this man- not to continue to crucify him in death as he was the last sixteen years of his life.
