An 8-year-old boy weighing 200 pounds has been taken away from his mother, prompting renewed discussion about whether a family should lose custody of a child if it is severely obese.
The unnamed boy from Cleveland, Ohio, was taken into foster care in October after the boy's weight escalated.

His mother has been battling with Ohio's Children and Family Services officials to get him back, claiming she is doing everything she can to help her son lose weight.
Mary Louise Madigan, a spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Family Services, told The Plain Dealer, "This child's problem was so severe that we had to take custody." The agency worked with the mother for more than a year before asking Juvenile Court for custody of the child, she said.
