Elizabeth Banks Discusses the World of 'Hunger Games'
Actress Elizabeth Banks, starring in the upcoming comedy "Our Idiot Brother," took time out to talk to "Extra" about her next big project: the highly anticipated "Hunger Games," based on the popular novels by Suzanne Collins.
The story takes place in a not-too-distant future in which an annual televised event, sponsored by the Capitol, chooses one boy and one girl from each district to fight to the death.
"We are having a lot of fun filming it," said Banks. "It's such a great world to be in, such a creatively drawn world Suzanne Collins came up with... what does the future look like?"
Banks plays Effie Trinket, a character she described as "a mentor to the lead characters in the Hunger Games. She's a Capitol resident. She's sort of on the wrong side of it."
Banks, a huge fan of the books before the movie was planned, chased after the role of Effie. "I wanted to play Effie the moment I read the books. It's really one of the best trilogies since 'Lord of the Rings.'"
"Hunger Games" also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutchinson and Liam Hemsworth.
See Banks this weekend in "Our Idiot Brother," opening Friday, and mark down March 23, 2012 for the premiere of "Hunger Games."
