TV actress Valerie Bertinelli and her new husband Tom Vitale kept their wedding such a secret, the bride greeted her guests before the ceremony... in her bathrobe!

The "Hot in Cleveland" star returned 20 minutes later looking cool in a blue silk chiffon gown by David Meister and announced the "special New Year's Day bash" was really a wedding celebration, People.com reports.

The guests enjoyed the laid-back ceremony at the couple's Malibu home, where they feasted on beef tenderloin, lobster and chocolate soufflé.

Bertinelli's "Hot in Cleveland" co-stars Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves gave "Extra" exclusive details from inside the ceremony.

First, Leeves had an inkling something was up. "The invitation said 'Cocktails 3 to 4, Special Event 4 to 4:45...' I said, she's getting married!," while Malick laughed she was hoping for something dramatic. "I thought she'd perhaps be riding down the beach on a white horse at sunset something like that."

As for honeymoon plans, the newlyweds have decided to wait until spring to take an Italian vacation.

"I could have spent the rest of my life with Tom and not be married, but I wanted to call him 'my husband'," Bertinelli told People.com. "I really wanted to share how I feel about Tom with the people I love."
