The marriage between Katie Lee and Billy Joel is over -- and it could be because of a fashion designer!

In December, Katie Lee was spotted getting dirty on the dance floor with fashion designer Yigal Azrouël. He reportedly even introduced her as his girlfriend.

Roots

He is of French Moroccan descent and was born and raised in Israel.

Welcome to the Big City

Yigal moved to the Big Apple in 1996 with $500. Two years later, he launched his first collection in New York.

Honored

In July 2004, Azrouël was inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA).

Self-Taught

Azrouël was never formally trained in fashion design. He tells W Magazine, “I couldn't afford to go to design school, and no one would hire me because I had no papers.”

The celeb clientele at his New York boutique includes Salma Hayak, Jennifer Connelly, Catherine Zeta Jones, Natalie Portman and Sarah Jessica Parker, and seen here, Michelle Trachtenberg.

Faux Pas

At NYC Fashion Week 2009, Yigal Azrouël fired his front-of-house publicist, People Revo-lution’s Kelly Cutrone... for inviting ex-hooker Ashley Dupre to sit in the front row at his show.

New Ventures

Yigal collaborated with K-Swizz in 2008 and launched his own Spring 2009 menswear collection.

Military Man

Azrouël joined the Israeli military at age 18 and served for three years.

Designing Success

Some sources report his 2006 sales at $1,500,000.
