Meet 'Spiderman's' Nasty New Villain, the Sandman

April 19, 2007 Movies

“Extra’s” Jerry Penacoli stormed Tokyo, Japan, as the cast of “Spiderman 3” spun their web for their world premiere.

While we were in town, we sat down with the night’s main attraction, Thomas Haden Church, who plays the star villain, the Sandman.

During our exclusive interview over sushi and Kobe beef, Thomas admitted that he was savoring the Japanese cuisine.

“That’s f****** good meat,” he exclaimed, and he knows what he’s talking about; he’s a Texas cattle rancher. “I’d put this up against the best American steak, to be certain.”

Speaking of beef, Church told “Extra” he had to beef up for the role of The Sandman, and he worked out two hours a day, six days a week for two years.

“I had to fill out the sweater,” he said.

However, he’s now working to take some of the weight off in preparation for his impending wedding, although he and fiancée Mia have yet to set a date.

“We’re getting there. We will get there,” Thomas promised.

You can catch Spidey’s newest nemesis in action when “Spiderman 3” roars into theaters May 4.
